Takayuki Nakamura defended his doctoral dissertation on literature of the Francophone Antilles at the University of foreign languages in Tokyo in 2006 ("Edouard Glsisant and the Problematic History of the Antilles"). He has been an Associate Professor at the Japanese Center for Contemporary European Research at Waseda University in Tokyo since April 2018. He is also the author of a book entitled Edouard Glissant, Thinker of the Tout-Monde written in Japanese (Editions Iwanami, 2016). He has translated numerous francophone works into Japanese such as Faulkner, Mississippi by Edouard Glissant, Nègre je suis, nègre je resteraiby Aimé Césaire (in collaboration with M. Tachibana) and "Vers les icebergs"by J.M.G. Le Clézio.
